What’s an unvention?

It’s a term from the world from knitting. Elizabeth Zimmermann came up with a plethora of methods and techniques that changed the way people knitted and thought about patterns.

But in most cases, she didn’t like to talk about inventing them. Because they weren’t really unique, and other people had probably thought of them over the years. They just maybe hadn’t written them down. So she called them unventions. “One un-vents something; one unearths it; one digs it up.”

And mostly what I share here won’t be truly unique either, but what I’ve unearthed and written down. And maybe it’ll save someone some time and frustration. Unventions, in 365.
